Magnifique aor venu de suède !!!

Comme son nom l’indique, SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION est un groupe suédois, qui a démarré dans les 80’s. Reformé en 2013, le groupe sort cet été son 1er album bien nommé 1987, dans une démarche très AOR voire Westcoast assorti d’un son digne des plus grands. Le line-up est constitué de Christer LÄRK (chant), Peder JONSSON (batterie), Peter JOHANSSON (claviers), Mats JOHANSSON (guitare) et Berra HOLMGREN (basse), et inutile de préciser que leur maîtrise et leur expérience alliées à un talent de composition indéniable va faire mouche sur chaque titre de cette galette absolument renversante et diablement étonnante.
L’entame est un pur joyau AOR, gorgé de claviers chatoyants, à la manière d’un grand FOREIGNER, soutenu par des guitares cristallines magnifiques, le tout interprété par Christer LÄRK, à la voix chaude, fantastique tout simplement sur ce titre. On se retrouve en plein dans les 80’s avec un AOR de feu, au refrain épatant, ce This Love Will Last Forever est déjà le titre phare de ce 1987 et un hit incontournable. Après un tel début en fanfare, la musique de SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION va se tourner vers d’autres horizons, toujours aussi mélodiques bien sûr : un rien funky sur Lucky, qui je l’avoue m’a bien décontenancé, mais la précision de l’interprétation tant vocale qu’instrumentale finira par me séduire, encore plus mélodique sur Out Of My Way, sorte de ballade romantique, aux guitares sublimes, un titre très prenant au final. Le côté Westcoast apparaît sur le cool Stay With Me, très américain, qui fait penser à TOTO ou à AOR du sieur Frédéric SLAMA, mais du plus bel effet, le chant toujours chaud et bourré de feeling de Christer LÄRK resplendit encore sur ce titre. Suit ensuite Too Much Money, à l’intro plus incisive mais toujours dans le même tempo et la même veine Westcoast, tout en mettant plus de rythme.
A la moitié de l’album, ces sacrés Suédois ont déjà montré un savoir-faire incroyable par des compositions subtiles, riches en émotions, dans un cadre très AOR et avec cette apport Westcoast, finement distillée et de superbes mélodies, l’auditeur fan de ce style comme votre serviteur ne peut que craquer. D’ailleurs l’intensité mélodique, la ferveur musicale exprimée et la finesse des instruments vont continuer à envelopper ce 1987 dans une atmosphère riche de fraîcheur et d’enthousiasme, toujours baignée par cet AOR pur et classieux, comme sur Somewhere Somehow et Life Is Beautiful, véritables perles du genre.
La fin de l’album se veut variée: avec Love Is Such A Beautiful Thing, très jazzy mais superbe dans sa construction, Stay Away From The Dark, plus rock mélodique et hyper entraînant, aux claviers rutilants, l’autre hit de cette galette, (cliquez ici) et Million Reasons, encore plus lyrique et au parfum AOR très 80‘s, qui fait penser à ces belles années, SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION étonne encore. La qualité de la production, la richesse des instruments et la rigueur mélodique font de 1987 un petit bijou et ouvre de nouveaux horizons à cette musique top class vraiment.
Un grand coup de chapeau à ces Suédois talentueux, fourmillant d’idées, qui ont composé ces titres superbement enregistrés de surcroît et d’une magnificence plus qu’éloquente. En un mot : remarquable !!!
As its name suggests, SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION is a Swedish band, which started in the 80's. Reformed in 2013, the band releases this summer its first album right named 1987, in a very AOR or Westcoast approach with a sound worthy of the greatest. The line-up is composed of Christer LÄRK (singer), Peder JONSSON (drummer), Peter JOHANSSON (keyboardist), Mats JOHANSSON (guitarist) and Berra HOLMGREN (bassist), and needless to say that their mastery and experience combined with a talent of undeniable composition will hit every title of this album absolutely stunning and devilishly amazing.
The opening is a pure AOR gem, bursting with shimmering keyboards, in the style of a great FOREIGNER, supported by beautiful crystalline guitars, all played by Christer LÄRK, with a warm voice, simply fantastic on this track. We find ourselves right in the 80's with a fiery AOR, with an amazing chorus, This Love Will Last Forever is already the title track of this 1987 and a must hit. After such a start with fanfare, the music of SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION will turn to other horizons, always melodic of course : a funky little thing about Lucky, which I confess has disconcerted me, but the precision of both vocal and instrumental interpretation will seduce me, more melodic on Out Of My Way, a kind of romantic ballad, with sublime guitars, a very catchy title in the end. The Westcoast side appears on the cool Stay With Me, very American, reminiscent of TOTO or of AOR from Frédéric SLAMA, but the most beautiful effect, the song always hot and stuffed with feeling of Christer LÄRK shines again on this title. Then follows Too Much Money, to the intro more incisive but still in the same tempo and the same vein Westcoast, while putting more rhythm.
At the half of the album, these sacred Swedes have already shown incredible expertise by subtle compositions, rich in emotions, in a very AOR and with this contribution Westcoast, finely distilled and beautiful melodies, the listener fan of this style as your servant can only crack. Moreover the melodic intensity, the expressed musical fervor and the fineness of the instruments will continue to envelop this 1987 in an atmosphere rich of freshness and enthusiasm, always bathed by this pure and classy AOR, as on Somewhere Somehow and Life Is Beautiful, real pearls of the kind.
The end of the album is varied: with Love Is Such A Beautiful Thing, very jazzy but superb in its construction, Stay Away From The Dark, more rock melodic and super catchy, the keyboards gleaming, the other hit of this album, (cliquez ici) and Million Reasons, even more lyrical and AOR very 80's perfume, which is reminiscent of those beautiful years, SWEDISH FUNK CONNECTION still astonishes. The quality of the production, the richness of the instruments and the melodic rigor make of 1987 a small jewel and open new horizons to this music top class really.
A great hat trick to these talented Swedes, swarming with ideas, who have composed these superbly recorded titles in addition and a magnificence more than eloquent. In a word: remarkable !!!
